JP Morgan Chase execs were aware of Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse and allegedly hindered the course

By: April Carson

JP Morgan Chase executive's involvement in Jeffrey Epstein's criminal activities has been widely discussed, and it is evident that they knew about the sexual abuse he was perpetuating. Despite this, reports suggest that JP Morgan Chase hindered efforts to bring justice to its victims and allowed perpetrators of this heinous crime to remain unpunished.

Court documents reveal that JP Morgan executives knew Jeffrey Epstein's abusive actions. They even made a distasteful joke about him being spotted with a 16-year-old Miley Cyrus in public. JP Morgan was also aware that Epstein had made suspicious payments to young women and failed to take any action. This is yet another example of powerful institutions turning a blind eye to sexual misconduct, which has become all too common in our society.

The US Virgin Islands government filed a case against JP Morgan accusing its staff of being insensitive towards the pedophile's actions. The case also claims that JP Morgan paid over $1 million to at least 20 victims through Epstein's accounts.

According to documents, Epstein allegedly paid $600,000 to a woman he had purchased when she was 14 years old. The USVI government filed a lawsuit against JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank in December, accusing them of ignoring signs of Epstein's sex trafficking of minors. Despite the accusations, both banks deny any wrongdoing.

The US Virgin Islands' revised lawsuit, filed in the location where Epstein owned a private island, alleges that JP Morgan impeded investigations regarding its association with Epstein.

During their relationship with him, which took place from 1998 to 2013, executives sent internal emails regarding his abusive behavior. These emails were sent even after he had served a 15-month sentence in 2008 for soliciting sex from an underage girl.

The lawsuit also claims that JPMorgan continued to provide banking services to Epstein despite red flags from law enforcement.

Mary Erdoes, who is the chief executive of JP Morgan's Asset & Wealth division, was included in the group discussed in the document. The emails mentioned in the document raised questions about who Epstein's clients were. Additionally, senior executives at JPMorgan made inappropriate jokes about Epstein's interest in young girls, suggesting that his behavior was widely known within the company.

According to the US Virgin Islands, JP Morgan failed to report suspicious transactions as required. If they had reported those transactions, it could have prevented federal investigative and prosecuting agencies from being unaware of Epstein's secret cash transactions that were necessary for his sex-trafficking operation.

JP Morgan seems to have put their interests above those of justice.

The victim who Epstein allegedly bought when she was 14 years old received over $600,000 in payments. Additionally, a recruiter who was granted immunity through Epstein's plea deal in 2008 was also paid generously.

It is claimed that almost all of the money was paid after Epstein was convicted in 2008. According to the filing, between 1999 and 2002, Epstein transferred over $23 million to Ghislaine Maxwell, his "madam" who is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for recruiting underage girls for him.

The lawsuit alleges that women were trafficked and subjected to abuse during various periods between 2003 and July 2019, while Epstein was under arrest and detention. These women received multiple payments totaling more than $1 million collectively between 2003 and 2013.

Moreover, the lawsuit alleges that JP Morgan Chase executives had knowledge of Epstein's sexual abuse and allegedly hindered the course of justice. Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that JP Morgan Chase execs were complicit in protecting Epstein and Maxwell from criminal prosecution.

Over that period, Epstein took out over $775,000 in cash from his JP Morgan accounts. This is noteworthy because Epstein was reputed to pay for sexual activities using cash. The financial data also shows that almost $1.5 million was withdrawn from JP Morgan accounts to pay known recruiters. The lawsuit claims that the recruiters were used to bring underage girls to Epstein's residence for sexual abuse.

JP Morgan's case faced a partial rejection from the judge last month, but some claims were allowed to move forward. Recently, the USVI attorney general subpoenaed communications between several wealthy men, including Sergey Brin, the founder of Google, and Epstein.

There is a lawsuit currently taking place alongside a separate claim made by a woman named Jane Doe 1. This lawsuit accuses Jes Staley, former JP Morgan boss, of various wrongdoings. According to court documents, Staley sent approximately 1,200 emails to Epstein from his JP Morgan email account between 2008 and 2012.

The banker is suspected of having visited Epstein's private island in the Caribbean when Epstein was in prison for engaging in sexual activities with underage girls. Staley is also accused of having a role in minimizing the impact of Epstein's plea deal.

Staley's lawyers have denied the allegations of wrongdoing and the use of codewords with Epstein. JP Morgan, in a motion to dismiss, has stated that the complaint filed by USVI is an attempt to hold JP Morgan responsible for not detecting Epstein's crimes a decade ago, which according to them is a deflection tactic.

JP Morgan has also argued that the USVI is attempting to hold them liable for not detecting what other branches of the government — including prosecutors, judges, and countless others — failed to detect.
