How Old Would You Be If You Were A Martian?

“It might be helpful to realize, that very probably the parents of the first native born Martians are alive today.” — Harrison ‘Jack’ Schmitt, Apollo 17 moonwalker

In this age of the newly minted Space Force and the possibility of interplanetary travel becoming more real by the day, there will come a time in the future where human civilizations will live on different planets throughout our solar system.

This is the dream of billionaires such as Elon Musk and others who are pouring tens of billions of dollars into space travel and exploration. Once these dreams manifest into reality, it will definitely redefine the meaning of long distance relationships.

When Age Ain't Nothing But A Number

Once humans become a truly space faring species, you can only imagine that there will be an intergalactic internet that will allow us to communicate between planets instantaneously.

By this time, there will most certainly be holographic 3D communication systems along with AR, VR and MR devices to keep us connected with family and friends on other worlds. But will we celebrate birthdays based on Earth years or based upon your home planet's yearly cycle?

Once human beings are established on other planets and children are born off world, will this cause us to reconsider our definitions of age? Since each planet has it's own unique orbit around the sun that is in major contrast to our 365(ish) days that we consider one earth year, how will define age in the interplanetary space faring era? Or will age even matter at that point in time?

How To Find Out Your Interplanetary Age

My personal interplanetary age chart

While browsing the internet recently, I came across on article about Author Irene Diomi who built a simple calculator using NASA data to estimate and compare your age on Earth with other planets in our near solar system.

I thought it would be fun to find out my age and also share it with you, so you can see that age truly 'ain't nothing but a number' once we are no longer Earthbound.

There will definitely come a point in the future when we will need to develop an intergalactic time system. My best guess is that we will develop a 'star date' system similar to Star Trek. It is definitely interesting to ponder these things.

“We are all … children of this universe. Not just Earth, or Mars, or this system, but the whole grand fireworks...” — Ray Bradbury

How To Find Out Your Interplanetary Weight

If the thought has ever crossed your mind about how much you will weigh on the Moon or Mars, you can now find out. And not only on the Moon or Mars, but on the Sun and stars!

You can use this tool to calculate your weight on all of the planets in our solar system including the moons of Jupiter.

My interplanetary weight

"We're going to become the martians when we land there. When we explore and build communities, we become the martians. That's a wonderful destiny for all of us." --Ray Bradbury

We are truly living in an exciting time where space travel is moving forward at a rapid pace. We will soon be an interplanetary species. It is very possible that we will have descendants on other worlds. Will this ultimately change our perspective on age? Only time will tell.
