A kid noticed a bright light flashing front the sky around 1 a.m. on Friday. This light evidently was captured on a Nest camera. (A SHORT VIDEO CLIP BELOW)
The kid sent the images to his mom who was amazed and then reported it to ABC News.
The children ABC spoke to at the Houston Museum of Natural Science that had seen the video were very excited to see the bright flashing light in the sky.
"It looks like a rock maybe that fell from the sky," said 9-year-old Dassie Perez.
"Maybe a shooting star?" said Jayden Flores, 9, and Noah Perez, 7.
Reports about an exceptionally bright fireball was coming into the American Meteor Society (AMS) from San Antonio and Bryan College Station.
“AMS posted a video from Michael Dudley in the City Centre area.”
Alayah Flores who is 11-years old, thought it was fireworks show. She said, "It looks like it exploded. Yea, it's sparkling."
The AMS video shows the more prominent and brighter images of the green-colored fireball as it brightened the dark sky then disappeared seemingly into thin air.
Dr. Larry Pinsky, a Physics Professor at the University of Houston, wasn’t as excited as the kids and said, "It just looks like a fireball. I've seen them before."
Pinsky explained that a “fireball is when the object is big enough to break up into tiny fragments and the sky that streaks in the showers are due to things that are almost like pieces of sand.”
Dr. Pinksy reported to ABC news that fireballs can travel quickly through the sky and “depending on the trajectory of the particle coming in with respect to the Earth's motion, and you can get thousands of miles per second, but then moving, you have speed distances of 30 or 40 miles."
Dr. Pinksy indicated that no major major meteor showers have been currently active but provided that fireballs are more frequent and can happen at any time in the year.
