The newest luxury flying superyacht concept from an Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini is meant to fly as well as sail the world's oceans. The Air Yacht is a flying superyacht design that includes a luxurious flying boat set within a striking modern hull.
Over the last few years, Lazzarini has been working on the Aquila concept, which many people believe inspired Ferretti's Vision 130 collection.
Pierpaolo Lazzarini is no stranger to design concepts, having previously created the Stratosfera Concept, a swan-inspired superyacht capable of moving on water, land, and in the air. The Pagurus solar-powered amphibious catamaran can also move overland. His latest project, the Air Yacht, is a yacht that can travel effortlessly over water or through the air without producing pollution in the future.
The design comprises of two 150-meter airships linked to a central 80-meter hull via four carbon cables on each side. The dry carbon fiber construction can reach 60 knots (111 km/h) thanks to eight contra-rotating electric rotors on the sides powered by ultra-light batteries and solar panels, as well as two helium-filled blimps, allowing it to fly, hover, and float on water.
The two floating balloons are divided into colonies that hold 14.1 million ft3 (400,000 m3) of compressed helium. The compressed helium is released as the balloon ascends, allowing for journeys up to 48 hours at 60 knots and safe landings on the sea surface due to its inflatable base.
The Air Yacht is the ideal yacht for quiet cruising on the water. It cruises at 5 knots (9 km/h) and runs silently because of its reduced power output.
The Air Yacht's main deck is 10 meters wide, and it contains a master bedroom with 360-degree views, a large dining area, and a living room. Each blimp side has five passenger cabins, while the center shipowner suite offers a 360-degree view. There are also windows on the exterior of the airships, allowing passengers to enjoy a view of their surroundings when in flight. An optional helipad may also be placed on top of the central deck, with an associated helicopter landing pad.
The opportunity to touch down on land or in the water distinguishes this type of superyacht. The first Air Yacht (or sky yacht) for a customer will be feasible theoretically, according to Pierpaolo Lazzarini, with €550 million ($629 million). The price will be based on the size, which can vary from 200 meters to 300 meters in length.
As with most sky yachts, this Air Yacht is an outrageously expensive idea for rich folks who like to fly over land and water. There are currently plans for two more of these sky-yachts planned -- one 500 meters and another 400 meters in length. No word yet on pricing, but we expect it to be upwards of $1 billion each at the least.
