How it Works:
Magnetic-levitation devices for sorting airborne viruses and bacteria rely on the unique magnetic properties of certain materials, such as gadolinium. By introducing gadolinium nanoparticles into the air, researchers can make viruses and bacteria within the air sample adhere to these nanoparticles, effectively tagging them.

This manipulation allows the researchers to separate different types of microorganisms based on their magnetic susceptibility. As a result, even the smallest viruses can be efficiently sorted from the air sample, paving the way for further analysis.
