Is Atlantis in the Sahara? Researchers Find 'Eye of the Sahara' to Be Atlantis' Remains

By: April Carson

Was Atlantis in the Sahara?

According to Plato's ancient writings, a novel idea compares the philosopher's features with pictures taken by contemporary satellites.

In Timaeus, written 360 years BC, Plato described Atlantis:

“...It is written in our archives how, long ago, your State held the course of a huge army that was threatening to assault not just Europe and Asia, but also all of Western civilization.” For the ocean there was then a passable route; an island that was greater than Libya and Asia combined lay in front of the mouth known to Greeks as "the Pillars of Heracles," and travelers from that era could cross from it to the other islands, as well as from one island to the next. For what we have here, within the mouth of which we speak, appears to be a refuge with a tiny doorway; but that yonder is a real ocean, and the land surrounding it may properly be described as a continent in the fullest and most accurate sense. “Now in this island of Atlantis, there existed a confederation of kings, of enormous and incredible power, which ruled over the entire island and many others as well.”

According to Plato, a devastating conflict took place 9,000 years ago between cavillations located outside the Pillars of Hercules at the Strait of Gibraltar and those who lived within them.

Within the Pillars of Hercules, Plato claims that the powerful Atlanteans had already conquered significant portions of Libya and had gone as far as Egypt. They conquered territory as far north as Etruria—Etruria, a region of Central Italy covering parts of Tuscany, Lazio, and Umbria—enslaving its inhabitants along the way.

For centuries, philosophers, historians, and archaeologists have argued about the tale of Atlantis, as well as numerous explorers who tried to locate the mythical lost city.

Despite this, no one has yet discovered conclusive evidence to support Plato's assertions that Atlantis existed.

Despite this, numerous specialists have proposed several sites as to where Atlantis might be found. UFO hunters, self-proclaimed researchers, and other modern technology have led them to discover what they believe are remnants of the long-lost Atlantean society.

The Atlantis legend has apparently been inherited by the millennia. According to one YouTuber known as Jimmy Bright, this mythical city may have existed in the Sahara Desert. In a video uploaded to YouTube, Bright explains his hypothesis, which has already had more than 2 million views.

According to Bright, the geologic structure of Richat, also known as "the Eye of the Sahara" and located in the northwest portion of Africa, may have been where the legendary city was built.

The blogger builds his argument on Plato's writings about Atlantis, which are cited.

According to Bright, the Eye of the Sahara is in perfect accordance with the description given by Plato in Critias and Timaeus.

According to Bright, the Richat Structure's diameter is 23 kilometers, which matches Plato's description of Atlantis.

Richat's design is also very similar to that of Atlantis, which he claims was built of three concentric circles of earth and three concentric circles of water.

To back up his idea, Bright notes that Plato said the city of Atlantis was surrounded by mountains and “protected from the north.”

The YouTuber deduces that these supposed mountains are north of the Eye of the Sahara based on this information. He also discovers signs of what he thinks are dried river remnants in the region surrounding him.

Another indication that Plato wrote about was the nation or area surrounding Atlantis' city.

According to the Greek philosopher, Atlantis was situated on a "flat and smooth plain," according to the YouTuber. According to the YouTuber, Atlantis was located in the Sahara Desert.

Many YouTubers, astounded by the theory, noted numerous connections between Plato's description of Atlantis and Richat's Structure.

Others, on the other hand, protest that it is only a misinterpretation of ancient writings and that the proposed theory's logic contains many inconsistencies.

The academic world, on the other hand, showed no interest in such news.

In fact, modern scholars are certain that Plato's Atlantis was not a reality. As a result, the existence of a world power that flourished 9,000 years ago before our own is nothing more than pseudoscientific speculation.
