Akoin is the name of Akon's blockchain-powered cryptocurrency. He's also working on several other blockchain projects.

The currency was created to increase learning, earning, spending, and savings possibilities across Africa that purportedly will expand into other nations, according to AfroTech. The platform provides a solution to many of the current problems faced by businesses such as inflation, limited access to business tools and services, and restricted government regulation.

Through a newly launched cryptocurrency card that may be utilized anywhere where MasterCard is accepted, Akon is finding new ways to profit from the continent's economy.

“It's finished. The real AKOIN Card!!! Which means that you may now use your AKOIN (AKN) at any merchant that accepts master cards. I'm sure you can't just walk into a store and spend your crypto freely, right? Well, with AKOIN (AKN), you can,” – Akon wrote on Instagram.

The cryptocurrency card was co-developed by the team at Crypterium, a blockchain fintech startup that is planning to diversify financial services through new digital offerings.

This is a huge step forward for the project as it provides users with a stable option for spending their earnings from various sources, including wages and crypto trading. The card can be used at any store that accepts Mastercard, so the potential to spend your money around the world is much easier now.

Akon and His Cryptocurrency Empire

The singer, who also has a personal cryptocurrency, announced the launch of his new cryptocurrency card. The Ugandan government reserved one square mile of land for the creation of Akon city by 2036, according to AfroTech.

There has yet to be announced any amenities for the city, but it may follow the example of its $6 billion sibling city in Senegal, which is expected to include a hospital campus, mall, school, and police station.

Crypto and Its Impending Future in Africa

According to AfroTech, Akon thinks his interest in cryptocurrency and the future will help Africa create a "technologically-advanced society."

“I want the newest in future technologies,” he said to TMZ about Senegal's construction, according to Complex. “I don't want anything from the past. I want it all to be built on tomorrow's technology and how it will be built for our future because all of today's technology is instruments and minerals taken from Africa."

“I'm in Africa now, so we can do everything within the continent without having to outsource anything from outside.”
