The Golden State Warriors star has signed a multiyear contract with Turner Sports to become an active player and appear on Turner Sports' "Inside the NBA" program as well as other material with Bleacher Report and Turner Sports.
This means Green will join Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kenny Smith on the studio crew as an analyst when his schedule allows, while also working remotely to contribute to various other programs and special projects throughout the season.
Green will be a regular presence on TNT's Inside the NBA, as well as other Turner Sports properties. Green will appear on TNT's flagship pregame and postgame programs when his schedule allows it, according to a network statement.
Turner Sports announced Thursday it has reached an agreement with Warriors forward Draymond Green.
"I've had a fantastic experience working with Turner Sports in recent years, and I'm a big believer in their ability to entertain and genuinely engage fans on various levels," said Green, who is currently out due to an injury. "I'm happy to announce that today's news formalizes our relationship and I couldn't be prouder to officially become a member of the TNT family."
Since joining the NBA in 2012, Green has been one of the league's most outspoken players. He is a three-time champion and three-time All-Star, winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.
When Green retires, he will undoubtedly be seen as a potential sports media personality, but he has already begun his career early. He also started his own podcast with Colin Cowherd's "The Volume" network, in addition to the new TNT job.
It's not unusual to have a player become a commentator. When Tim Howard was still playing in the Premier League, he called other matches for NBC. Fox hired Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen for a couple of one-off games when he was still active in the NFL.
Green's debut with the "Inside the NBA" crew will take place on Thursday night. After the Warriors face the Timberwolves, he'll join Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kenny Smith.
