What Is Meditation?

Meditation is an art of focusing the mind onto a single point. Meditation is very similar to training. meditation benefits can be related to meditation because meditation has many health and mental benefits.

However, meditation may not work for everyone because meditation requires practice and devotion. It differs from person to person. Some people meditate for months before they feel any meditation benefits. Meditation is a practice in which the practitioner trains his mind to let go of all thoughts and emotions in order to achieve a state of consciousness, high awareness or pure being as referred by some meditation practitioners.

Brain Function -

Meditation can change our brain for the better in as little as 11 hours, according to new research. Researchers from Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital found that meditation activates parts of the cerebral cortex associated with attention and sensory processing. This suggests people who meditate are less easily distracted by their surroundings than those who do not practice a form of mental exercise or self-reflection such as contemplation or prayer.

A new study by a team of neuroscientists reveals meditation has an impact on the brain similar to that of years of learning. The scientists from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) found meditation can actually alter the brain structure and connections, making it stronger and more resilient as we get older. "The results of this study reinforce that meditation is an effective way to preserve brain health," meditation researcher Rebecca Erwin Wells, who worked on the study, said.

When meditating, your brain is being silenced from the inside and it's like a reset of your day or life. Meditation increases the grey matter in the part of our brain called hippocampus, which helps us store memory and keep it from slipping away. The research on how meditation benefits the brain has been accumulating for many years and studies are continuing to be published frequently.
