Apple iMessage Will Soon Allow You To Edit And Unsend Text Messages

By: April Carson

The release of iOS 16 will bring about significant modifications for iPhone users. Among the most anticipated is the new feature that allows users to unsend text messages.

The new iOS update, which was announced at Apple's WWDC 2022 event, allows you to modify and unsend messages you've already sent in the Messages app.

This change has been a long time coming for many people who have accidentally sent embarrassing or incorrect messages before having the chance to fix them. The new feature will give users up to 30 seconds to edit or delete a message after it has been sent.

According to The Verge, software engineering senior VP Craig Federighi announced that users will be able to flag threads as unread so they may revisit them later. Users will be able to modify or unsend messages for up to 15 minutes after they are sent, and texts can be recovered within a month after being sent.

“We're adding three of the most requested features to Messages,” said Federighi. “Have you ever sent a message only to discover you didn't really say what you meant? That's nothing to worry about. You can now edit any message you send, so embarrassing typos are no longer an issue.”

This is a great feature for those who tend to send messages without thinking, or for those who simply want to make sure their messages are perfect before sending them. It's also useful for those who want to take back something they said.

This is a huge development for iMessage, which has long been considered one of the best messaging platforms available. With this new update, it will become even more powerful and user-friendly. It is not yet known when these features will be rolled out to users, but it is likely that it will happen sometime in the near future.

During his description of the characteristics, Federighi's presentation was linked to a visual representation showing how it will all work, with text going from blue to white as an example. The unsend function, which will appear when users press down on the text bubble, will be called the "Undo Send" button to assist users recall past mistakes. It's unclear how long users will have to unsend a message, but it is likely that the window of opportunity will be pretty small.

This new update will be a great addition to an already excellent messaging platform, and it will make it even more user-friendly. It is not yet known when these features will be rolled out to users, but it is likely that it will happen sometime in the near future.

“Unread” functionality is something that will appeal to those who don't have time to react immediately but want to be sure they'll get back to a message later,” he said. “The ability to edit a sent message is also fantastic, as it gives users the ability to fix any mistakes they may have made without having to delete the entire conversation.”

The news comes as Apple enters a crucial year for transformation, when it just recently revealed that it will be ending production of its last iPod model. The announcement was made on Apple's website, stating that the iPod touch will soon be discontinued. This leaves the iPhone and iPad as the only two Apple products with iMessage support. The company is also working on a new messaging app for the Mac, which is currently in beta testing.

“Music has always been an essential part of Apple's DNA, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of consumers in the way that iPod did changed more than just the music business—it also revolutionized how music is discovered, listened to, and shared.” Senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, Gregg Joswiak added, “Today's spirit of iPod lives on. We've unified a great music experience across our products - from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini - across Macs, iPads, and Apple TVs.”
