The Power of Sleep and Your Best Life

Sleeping each night an appropriate number of hours is critical for high brain function. Lack of sleep can result in issues with memory, mood and attentional impairments that can cause neurodegeneration. Neurodegeneration is the deterioration of the brain.

Your brain is involved in everything you do. Your every thought comes from your brain. Your thoughts upon which your everyday decisions are made can only be as effective as the brain is healthy. Your thinking is only as free and powerful as the health of your brain.

Your negativity bias is directly correlated with your brain function. The brain likes to run on programs because your brain loves conserving energy. It’s easier to believe and operate off the brain program that you can’t do something than to try and do it. And your brain will always choose the easier route unless you do something different.

The more you become aware of your brain function, the more power you will have over what programs your daily actions and beliefs. And you begin to realize that you have more power than you thought to manifest the days, weeks, months and life you want. The greater your brain function, the less the negativity bias inherited from prior generations effect how you show up in life.

You are greater than any negative statistic but only if you use your brain function to be so. And one of the best ways to regenerate brain function is with sleep.

Regeneration means to restore to a better, higher, or more worthy state. When we allow our brains to regenerate, we rise to better, higher and more worthy states of being. You need sleep not because your body and nervous system need rest but because your brain needs time to engage in highly focused activity. And this high activity is the brain’s regeneration time.

Although we call this body function sleep, maybe sleep isn’t the word we should use because it undermines the necessity of it in our day to day lives. Maybe we should call it POD REGENERATION TIME. Our act of closing our eyes and shutting out the environment around us is like us going deeper within who we really are and awaken stronger. And in this pod of regeneration our brains elevate us to our greater power.

But many of us are not getting the sleep we need to regenerate our greater power. And it is effecting how we show up in our relationships, in our business and in our work.

Even though when we sleep, we lose consciousness and seemingly become extremely vulnerable, our loss of consciousness and this perceived vulnerability is actually our direct plug into our source of greater power. Do you want greater power in this life right now?

Get more sleep.

We must surrender control over our physical body and expression during our sleep time to gain more control over our physical body and expression during our wakeful time.

Are you maximizing your power by getting sufficient sleep? Has your daily “honey-heavy dew of slumber, as Shakespeare calls sleep, been enough to ignite your best awaken life?

Your sleep should be non-negotiable.

If you want to improve your memory recall, get more sleep. The neural networks involved in memory processing are activated during sleep. Sleep improves memory formations.

Memory formation is the process by which the brain selects new experiences and integrate and store them with existing memories.

When awake, memory formations occur simultaneously with a continuous evaluation of new experiences. But when pod regeneration time occurs, the continuous flow of new experiences are stopped because the eyes are closed to the world. This shutting down of connection with the outside world is critical because sleep is that “window of opportunity” when the brain can sort and encode new memories with old memories to create new data points in the “absence of the incessant barrage of external information.” This process of sorting and encoding is called “consolidation.” Consolidation is what causes us to be able to recall information and make connections during our wakeful experience with our surroundings.

For example. Steven Jobs took a calligraphy class that came back to his memory when designing the first Macintosh computer. Steve Jobs told Stanford graduates during a commencement speech, "When we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typeface or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them." Steve Job experienced consolidation and it led to a great and profitable creation.

What's coming back to you? If you are currently having memory or recall issues, it just might be your brain needs more regeneration time. Close your eyes! Get more restful sleep.

If sleep is a privilege, people who identify as blacks once again are unprivileged when it comes to statistical comparison with other racial groups in the area of sleep.

Sleep isn’t discriminatory but yet there are racial inequities in who gets appropriate amounts of sleep each night. And this lack of sleep directly impacts the onset of certain diseases on certain populations. Blacks reported getting less than 6 hours of sleep more routinely than white people. 6 hours is far less than the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep for adults. Obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders are twice as common in people of color than white people. Additionally, lack of sleep increases the risk of chronic diseases.

It’s up to you to know that sleep is important to your brain function and to your brain's decision-making abilities. It is up to you to prioritize sleep.

You could be missing consolidation opportunities that could change the trajectory of your entire life because you didn’t get enough sleep last night.

SLEEP IS THE KEY.

Your lack of sleep could be effecting your money flow and your conscious awareness of new financial opportunities.
